Big Idea: There are several ways to protect yourself from bed bugs as a home visitor.

Talking Points:

  • Bed bugs are the size of an apple seed. They leave black fecal smears around their hiding places.
  • Bed bugs live in places where people sleep such as sheets, pillow cases, mattresses, box springs, couches, recliners. They can also live in places near to where people sleep such as lamps, clocks, picture frames, baseboards, edges of carpets, electric outlets, and drapes.
  • Bed bug infestations almost always need a professional exterminator who has treated bed bugs before.
  • Professionals who visit homes should protect themselves and their clients by wearing booties into the home, leaving purses and bags in the car, and bringing in a simple stool or toolbox to sit on.
