Air Quality: Gas Stoves Solutions

Big Idea: Several steps can limit exposure to nitrogen dioxide from gas stoves.
Talking Points:
- Exhaust fans over the stove should vent to the outside.
- Using a HEPA air purifier with a carbon filter, like the one pictured, also has been shown to be effective in reducing nitrogen dioxide, for up to 3 months. Some purifiers, also called room cleaners, are portable and can be moved from room to room.
- Finally, consider replacing the gas stove with an electric one. One study showed that this change reduced nitrogen dioxide levels by 51% in the kitchen and 42% in the bedroom.
