Mold: What it looks like

Images: All purchased except for the wallpaper photo (NCHH image)

Big Idea: common locations of mold and mildew around the home are windows, corners of ceilings and floors, under wallpaper or flooring.

No matter what type of mold you have, you must eliminate the moisture source in order to control it.

Talking Points:

  • There are many types of mold and none of them grow without moisture.
  • It takes 24-48 hours for mold to grow on most surfaces
  • Mold spores, naturally occurring, float around us all of the time and may be found on almost every surface of a building.
  • When mold spores are on a surface with an appropriate moisture content, nutrients, and temperature, the spores will reproduce and mold will grow.
