Big idea: Lead-based paint and lead-contaminated dust are the major sources of exposure. Many homes built before 1978 have lead-based paint.
Talking points:
- 24 million US homes with deteriorated lead-based paint and tainted dust
- 3.6 million young children (under six) live in those homes
- The older a home is, the greater likelihood that it has lead-based paint, especially those built before 1940.
